Winterpelt Furbolg

Last wiki revision 2023-03-21

  • The Winterpelt Furbolg speak a language no one seems to understand. Perhaps more will be revealed in the future.

The Winterpelt Furbolg are a very isolated furbolg tribe based out of Winterpelt Hollow in northeastern Azure Span on the Dragon Isles.

The Winterpelt were unique amongst the furbolg tribes of the Dragon Isles due to their isolationist nature. After the Primalists arrived in the Azure Span, they sought to recruit the furbolg tribes of the span into their forces. While the Rustpine clan accepted this bargain and joined the Primalists, the Winterpelt refused and subsequently found themselves enslaved by Stormshackler Rynea.

Under Rynea's thrall, the tribe became actively hostile and assaulted the Dragonscale Expedition outpost at Theron's Watch immediately to the southwest of their home. This would however prove to be Ryena's undoing, as the expedition would send adventurers on a fact-finding mission to figure out what caused the Winterpelt to go from isolationists to hostiles and these adventurers would ultimately kill her and liberate the tribe. In the immediate aftermath of her death, Chieftain Kranac Sagesnow gestured to adventurers to leave their cave and the tribe ceased their hostile activities.

Sonova Snowden hopes to crack the code of the Winterpelt's language in order to help establish proper diplomatic relations relationships between the tribe and the Dragonscale Expedition.

Players start out at 100/3,000 unfriendly with the faction, and all standing is gained from completing quests. Two quest chains breadcrumb into each other, so they can be completed in either order.

At Theron's Watch, Sonova Snowden starts a quest chain for the nearby furbolg:

At Camp Nowhere, Garz, a lone furbolg, runs into camp looking for help:

After completing No Vengeance on an Empty Stomach, two quests within the subsequent quest chain provide reputation.

  • A Far Furbolg Friend
  • A Little Kelp for My Friends

All of the above quests will get players to 2,050/3,000 unfriendly standing. No additional sources exist in patch 10.0.2, but more reputation is expected in future patches.

In patch 10.0.7, Sonova Snowden sends mail to players who completed the Winterpelt Hollow and Rustpine Den chains:

Sonova's Request is attached, which starts another quest chain:

Academic Acquisitions will get players to neutral, then they need to grind out the repeatable quest to skill up in Furbolg language a bit...

After completing Academic Acquisitions, players gain a new line in their Languages passive skill:

To gain proficiency, complete the repeatable quest Additional Academic Acquisitions ninety-nine more times, each time turning in five Liberated Furbolg Artifacts. Artifacts drop from humanoid and tarasek Primalists and furbolgs at Vakthros Range, the Rustpine Den, Imbu, and Shiverweb Vale. Rarely, any creature that can drop an artifact can also drop an Intact Scribe Stick, which is worth a skill point all by itself in Astonishing Academic Acquisitions.

Note that the items drop regardless of quest status, so should players feel the desire to loot a hundred or so without ferrying a handful to Sonova each time, feel free!

At 100 skill, players earn the achievement Winterpelt Conversationalist and unlock the ability to speak Furbolg in say chat!

Additionally, several one-off quests offer rewards:

  • 1) Winterpelt Totem — Local Flavors at Skill 25
  • 2) Reading Glasses — Break Him at Skill 50
  • 3) Defender of the Winterpelt — History Heist at Skill 75
  • 4) Primal Stave of Claw and Fur — Champion of the Winterpelt at Skill 100
  • (quartermaster)
