Glorbo

On July 20, 2023, Reddit user u/kaefer_kriegerin made a post titled "I'm so excited they finally introduced Glorbo!!!". The initial post reads as follows:

Honestly, this new feature makes me so happy! I just really want some major bot operated news websites to publish an article about this.

I have to say, since they started hinting at it in Hearthstone in 1994, it was obvious that they would introduce Glorbo to World of Warcraft sooner or later. I feel like Dragonflight has been win after win so far, like when they brought back Chen Stormstout as the end boss of the new Karazhan? Absolutely amazing!

Feel free to comment below what features and stories you want to see in the future! Maybe you’ll be quoted on some trustworthy news websites as well!

Believing that a specific website called "Z League" crawling r/wow for top posts and reposting them as news articles using AI would pick up on the story without actually fact-checking the content, users began to "buy in" to the supposed "Glorbo" news, expressing excitement and elation over the supposed update. Users would be proven correct, as the post started making its way to the front page of the subreddit, Z League promptly published a news article titled "World of Warcraft (WoW) Players Excited for Glorbos Introduction."

Even World of Warcraft devs partook in the prank, with Zorbrix tweeting "Feels soooooo good to be able to talk about Glorbo finally, I remember my first day at Blizzard we were just starting to work on implementation, and that was almost 15 years ago!"

News outlets began picking up on the story as a cautionary tale about the dangers of Artificial Intelligence scraping articles to generate "content".

The original article, along with all other WoW-related articles, have been removed from Z League, but an archived link can still be found here.
