Stratagus

Last wiki revision 2022-07-20

The Stratagus is an open-source game engine for real-time strategy games.

It was originally released by Lutz Sammer as a Warcraft II clone for Linux, named ALE Clone but later renamed to FreeCraft in 1999. Blizzard Entertainment in 2003 sent a cease and desist letter due to the name possibily causing confusion with StarCraft and Warcraft, and some things in the engine were to similar to that of Warcraft II.

The project was renamed to Stratagus in 2004 with the focus of turning the game engine into a configurable RTS engine.

  • Wargus, following the look and sounds of Warcraft II but with slight enhancements towards StarCraft and other more modern RTS games.
  • War1gus, re-implementation of "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans".
  • Stargus, following the look and gameplay of StarCraft.
  • Aleona's Tales, gameplay similar to Warcraft II.
  • Wyrmsun
  • Bos Wars
