Falling through the world
Last wiki revision 2010-10-28
Falling through the world is a term used to describe the event of falling through the ground of World of Warcraft. Intentionally doing so may be an exploit, but it can also happen unintentionally due to bugs.
For various reasons, the player may fall through or under the game world, usually resulting in death after a long fall. The effect of dieing in this way is identical to falling off Outland. After releasing, the player's corpse is moved above ground to make returning to it possible. In some cases, the corpse is not moved and the player is forced to resurrect using a Spirit Healer. Because players are not expected to end up under the game world, zones are not accurately defined there. As a result, the player may find themselves very far from their corpse after releasing.
Falling through the world can happen as a result of intentional behavior or bugs beyond the character's control.
A curious player may attempt to navigate out of regular zone boundaries. Upon doing so, they may find an unused area of the game, often flat and barren. This is where holes in the game world are usually found. Walking into such a hole will result in the player falling through the world.
Player abilities that involve movement may also result in falling through the game world. For example, Blink will teleport the player through walls or terrain on rare occasions.
