Grimoire

Last wiki revision 2023-06-15

A grimoire is a textbook of magic typically giving instructions for invoking angels or demons, performing divination, and gaining magical powers.

Several grimoires are actually world drops for spells and not demon minion abilities. Due to the removal of spell ranks in patch 4.0.1, these items are no longer usable, and were converted into Poor Quality vendor items.

  • Grimoire of Doom Also learned as a reward from completing the warlock class quest Suppression (quest).
  • Grimoire of Inferno Also learned as a reward from completing the warlock class quest Kroshius' Infernal Core (quest).
  • Grimoire of Shadow Ward As of patch 2.0.1, also learned from a warlock trainer at level 60.

In addition, three grimoires drop in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj that taught high level versions of the Warlock spells.

  • Grimoire of Corruption Corruption
  • Grimoire of Immolate Immolate
  • Grimoire of Shadow Bolt Shadow Bolt

Some grimoires are offhand items:

  • Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire - Drops from Onyxia in Onyxia's Lair.
  • Fire Runed Grimoire - Drops from Magmadar, Garr, Baron Geddon, and Golemagg the Incinerator in Molten Core.
  • Vengeful Gladiator's Grimoire - PvP item available in after patch 2.3.

A few grimoires are quest items:

  • Antheol's Elemental Grimoire
  • Egalin's Grimoire
  • Vim'gol's Grimoire contained in Vim'gol's Vile Grimoire

Prior to patch 3.0.2, there were demon trainers that used to sell grimoires. These grimoires could teach a minion an ability or spell. Since the patch, all demon abilities and spells will automatically be learned as pets gain levels.
