Prince Valanar

Prince Valanar was a Darkfallen of the San'layn and the Scourge overlord of the Borean Tundra. He ruled from Naxxanar, a Scourge necropolis above the Temple City of En'kilah in the northern edge of the Tundra. Valanar could also be found in Valiance Keep disguised as Counselor Talbot, manipulating the Alliance leadership in order to weaken it.

During the war against the Lich King, the necropolis Naxxanar above the Temple City of En'kilah was the command post for the Scourge in the Borean Tundra, run by Prince Valanar, the overlord at the time.

All this time he was also disguised as Counselor Talbot, ready to lead the Alliance forces in the hands of the Lich King. It was in Naxxanar that the death knight Thassarian faced off with Prince Valanar and discovered that he'd been trying to destroy the Valiance Expedition from within by masquerading as Counselor Talbot. Valanar had Thassarian's sister, Leryssa, and General Arlos under mind control and was about to hand them over to the Lich King. Thassarian defeated Valanar to save both of them.

Valanar, along with his brother Keleseth and Prince Taldaram from Ahn'kahet, have returned in Icecrown Citadel as members of the Blood Prince Council. The three princes were raised in undeath by the Lich King to avenge themselves upon their slayers and to act as bodyguards for Blood-Queen Lana'thel, the blood-queen of the San'layn. They were unsuccessful and defeated once again.

He is also shown in a vision for the quest Out of Body Experience, where he and three other San'layn resurrect Archmage Arugal from the dead.

• His line "Naxxanar was merely a setback!" is a tribute to the oft-paraphrased line delivered by Kael'thas Sunstrider in the Magister's Terrace.
• Valanar appears as a legendary card in the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion for Hearthstone. His flavor text reads: "Three Princes stand before you. This one devours one after another."
