Blackhand (comic)

Last wiki revision 2023-06-02

Blackhand is a comic published digitally by Blizzard Entertainment as a tie-in for the World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor expansion.

A master tactician, Blackhand has never been one to shy away from battle. No matter what enemies the Blackrock orcs face, he has always identified a weakness to take advantage of, and used it to lead his clan to victory. His strength, tenacity, and cunning are legendary among Draenor’s orc warlords.

But even the best strategists can only do so much when outnumbered and overwhelmed. When ogres attack the Blackrock clan's domain, Blackhand exploits every advantage he can think of and finds he’s still unable to turn the tide of battle. With his warriors pitted against impossible odds, Blackhand has to look for aid in truly unexpected places. Will the price of the Blackrock clan’s survival end up being too high?

  • While it was originally unspecified whether or not Blackhand was canonical for the main universe Blackhand and not just the alternate version, the story has since been confirmed as canon for the main universe as well, as the events of the comic are recounted in the story of the Doomhammer (artifact) in World of Warcraft: Legion. This notion was previously supported by Khadgar's claim that he had heard legends about Blackhand sacrificing his hand to the elements, as well as the description of the Doomhammer artifact on the official site, which matched the events of Blackhand. The events of the comic were also mentioned in the "Doomhammer" episode of Azeroth Armory.
  • The topic was again opened following the release of . Its artwork depicted Blackhand as similar to his design in the Warcraft movie, with full hair and a tattooed black hand instead of a stone one. Matt Burns explained that Blizzard had ultimately decided to move away from Blackhand's Warlords of Draenor design and backstory; the main universe Blackhand still helped Orgrim retrieve the Doomhammer, but he was not consumed by fire.
