<Name>, we've got to destroy these tomes. Many of them have actual tortured souls bound into the pages, so we can't just burn them. Cordana will know what to do.

Take these books to my tower in Zangarra and give them to Cordana. Let me know when the deed is done.

You will receive:

<Khadgar smiles.>

So, how is Cordana doing? Is all well at my tower?

<Khadgar's face falls as you describe your encounter at the tower.>

Cordana...? Oh no no no...She's been very distant lately. I just... I thought it was part of her stone-cold warden routine. I didn't realize...

Ah, ! You see? This is exactly what does. He finds our weakness and turns it against us. Be careful who you trust. Ah, Cordana!

<Khadgar turns his eyes to the sea.>

After Cordana places the books and creates the pentagram, stepping out of the pentagram can stall the quest, leaving the player unable to interact with Cordana. If this happens, join a group in another realm (eg. using the group finder or the Cross-Realm Assist addon). Cordana will reform on the new realm and one can interact with her. Defeat her and then leave the group. Hearth back to your shipyard to turn in the quest.

The quest name is a reference to the phrase "cooking the books", which is accounting slang for altering financial information to appear more financially stable than you would otherwise, usually to perpetuate some sort of fraudulent activity.
