Cowled Ranger

Disguised as the Cowled Ranger, Shandris Feathermoon is found in the Lunarfall Inn or Frostwall Tavern. She offers a daily quest with the Sentinel's Companion as a reward. After both quests are finished, she reveals that she is looking for Alleria Windrunner.

• The identity of the Cowled Ranger was initially unclear, with popular theories including Shandris Feathermoon; Vereesa or Sylvanas Windrunner in disguise looking for their lost sister; a member of the Unseen Path before its introduction in Legion; and Emmarel Shadewarden, who admitted to having fought alongside the Windrunner family in the past. Early hints that it was Shandris included her "Boss NPC" status, which Shandris has, and her hair color, facial markings, skin tone, and face being the same; as well as hairstyle if her helmet was removed. Her Sentinel's Companion reward also indicated she was a Sentinel. During Battle for Azeroth she was updated to use Shandris's on-click lines, confirming her identity.
• While her identity as Shandris has been confirmed, exactly why the night elves, the Sentinels or Shandris herself had a particular interest in Alleria Windrunner's fate and whereabouts remains unclear, especially as the Cowled Ranger seemed to have deep personal concern for Alleria. The night elves and high elves, while having apparently cooperated several times in the past after the Great Sundering, remained on at best distant terms ever since the Highborne's exile from Kalimdor. While relations have likely thawed somewhat with their mutual associations via the Alliance over the years, neither Shandris nor any of the major night elves seemed to have any known connection or direct relationship with Alleria in the lore, although Alleria after her return did volunteer to help Shandris hunt down Jastor Gallywix during the Fourth War. It is conceivable that Shandris and Alleria, as both skilled rangers devoted to protecting their respective peoples may have met and befriended each other prior, as Lor'themar Theron stated that he respected Alleria's younger sister Sylvanas for millennia, or that Shandris traveled to Draenor as a favor to Vereesa Windrunner, with whom she had met and cooperated with in Theramore before its destruction, but these details remain highly speculative.
