Raw gem

Raw gems are precious stone items often usable as a crafting reagent for professions. Unlike cut gems, these must be crafted into another item to gain any sort of bonus. The majority of uncut gems are found via mining or prospecting. In addition, most can be found in chests and lockboxes, and have a small chance of dropping from random mobs. Some can also be mined from the corpses of certain giants and elementals.

• Pearl, which are not precious stones, but are put to use in much the same way.
• Gem, for socketable gems created by jewelers

Minerals present in the original World of Warcraft, and generally restricted to zones below level 60.
