WoW: Forever Names Now Have Two Parts: How First + Surname Works

WoW: Forever character names use a first name plus a second name, and only the full combination has to be unique in your region. Here's how it works before early reservations close on November 3.

TL;DR: Every WoW: Forever character gets two names, a first name and a second name, and only the full pair has to be unique in your region. Someone else taking your favorite first name doesn't lock you out. Early name reservations run until November 3, ahead of launch on November 4.

What Blizzard said

Forever has no realms, so names are unique per region instead of per server. In its naming article, Blizzard describes it this way:

"You can think of the system as giving your character a first name and a last or surname."

What counts is the complete combination. Two players can both be "Asha" as long as their second names differ, and alts can share a family-style surname, like Blizzard's Brightvale example.

The rules that matter

  • Full name, regional uniqueness. The first + second name pair must be free in your region.
  • Restrictions check both parts together. Splitting a blocked word across the two names won't get it through, per Blizzard.
  • You can hide the surname. Game Menu (Escape) → Options → Nameplates → uncheck "My Secondary Name." It still shows in chat.
  • Reservation window. Blizzard's reservation post lists October 27 through November 3, with up to 3 characters total across all rulesets, first come, first served. It needs an eligible upgrade purchase.
  • Rejected as restricted? A check bug blocked too many names. See our name-bug recap and retry after your region's realm restart.

News recap. Everloot has no addon data on names.

Help the DB grow: install the Everloot addon before launch on Nov 4 so your drops count from day one.
