WoW: Forever Molten Core Gets New Mechanics, Plus 3 Boss Teases

Blizzard says Molten Core will be revamped in WoW: Forever, and its encounter lead teased Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit bosses on the podcast.

TL;DR: Molten Core will not be the raid you solved in 2004. On the WoW: Forever Podcast, Senior Game Designer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield said the old raid gets new mechanics, and Lead Encounter Designer Michael Nuthals teased three new bosses from the 10- and 20-player raids.

Molten Core, revamped

Per Wowhead's podcast recap, Greenfield said:

"You're not just going to stand there and tank and spank Golemagg, for example; there may be a little more to it." (Josh Greenfield, Blizzard)

The goal is to avoid a jarring drop-off between the new raids and an old one players already know by heart. Specific mechanics have not been shown.

The raid philosophy

Nuthals described raids friends can clear together ("beer and pretzels") that still need coordination, by voice or with pings (source). He teased:

  • A Barrow Deeps boss where you manage a damage buff that has a cost.
  • A pair of spiders he is "super excited for."
  • An undead crocolisk in Hyjal Summit whose possessing spirit pops out, so the fight swaps between two phases.
  • A future "home or manor" instance, likely tied to Manor Mistmantle in Duskwood.

What it means for players

  • Old boss guides for Molten Core may not apply. Expect to relearn fights.
  • Per Wowhead commenters citing the roadmap, Barrow Deeps and Hyjal arrive later, not at launch. Check the Wowhead roadmap.

News recap. Everloot will publish raid drop tables with sample sizes once the addon collects them.

Help the DB grow: run the Everloot addon in raids so drop rates come from real kills.
